I'm dreaming of this place, and I'm wide awake! Go early (before 6:00) and avoid the lines at dinner. This place is, hands down, the best Japanese buffet I've been to in 10 years. For seafood freshness, it rivals the Todai franchise in Honolulu. The chilled crab legs are utterly perfect. Steamed to perfection, then chilled immediately. So many places don't do this right, and the crab legs get overdone and rubbery. Shinju's are perfect. The delicious fresh maki rolls and sashimi offerings are pretty standard, but with a few surprises here and there. White tuna (a bit fattier and rich, and little baby octopus on top of a maki roll (OK not really that flavorful, but so cool to freak dining companions out with.)) While I focused on the excellent seafood during my visit, don't miss the teppanyaki grill. Their succulent New York strip is rich and tender and done exactly the way you want (And you want it medium rare or rarer damn it! Don't ruin a good piece of beef by overcooking it!). I didn't try the cooked dishes, but my wife enjoyed them. I can't see going here and loading up on regular stuff anyway. Take an extra blood pressure med, and load up on the seafood and a little teppanyaki steak.

Food is really tasty, very fresh, and a huge selection! You are garuntees to leave full! The price is unbeatable, with the amount of sushi and sashimi and crab that I ate I am sure they lost money on me and my family! Service was very good and very nice. I would say the negatives are two fold. Firstly the seating is a bit crowded, no big deal to me. Second the desert selection was limited and tasteless, just stick to the sushi, shrimp, rolls, sashimi, etc, and you will be fine! Enjoy!

Extremely fresh sushi for a buffet. Seems to always be busy. That's a great sign. They have a variety to choose from. Also great for kids.

The service is good. Choices on the sushi buffet are excellent. Fish was very fresh. We enjoyed the dim sum selection as well. Save room for ice cream :)

One thing I've learned about Asian food: be hesitant to trust a restaurant that boasts being "Japanese & Chinese", "Japanese & Thai", or any other combination of 2 or more cuisines that are geographically close yet so many worlds apart, as the end result tends to be uninspired and fall flat. I went into Shinju expecting Japanese food, because, well, the name of the restaurant told me so. However, I would be remiss if I failed to mention that, aside from a handful of varieties of nigiri sushi and sashimi and a bin full of edamame, there isn't much actual Japanese food to be found. Despite being misleading, this is not inherently a bad thing. So what do they have? Fried rice, lo mein noodles, sweet & sour pork, gyoza, sesame balls, and several other traditionally Chinese dishes, as well as fresh oysters, crab legs and a full-service "hibachi" bar (where you choose the ingredients of your choice to be stir-fried--this has nothing to do with hibachi or Japanese food). Then there's some ice cream, cookies, and brownie-type morsels to close the meal. Though I would not put the quality of the food anywhere above average, they do have a decent selection of dishes, so if you fancy Asian-influenced buffet-style eating, give it a try. Gorge yourself on salmon and tuna sushi and oysters, which are probably the gems of the selections. My final rating is a 2.75.

I love going to Shinju. There are two locations that are fairly local to me. I prefer the Boca location. The big difference is the hibachi station. The one in boca has a lot to choose from for hibachi vegetables and sauces. The other one has no selection. The sushi here is always fresh. There is always plenty laid out. There is not many times where I have seen the sushi bar with empty platters. Love all the different kind of rolls also. There are several salads available also, including cold noodles, seaweed salad, asparagus and conch salad. The chinese food is also very good. I dont really eat all of the dishes but only because I would be too big to fit out the door. But the ones that I do enjoy are the mushrooms, butter shrimp, tempura shrimp and vegetables and I LOVE the dumplings! I never really get to dessert but they always have a nice selection of pastries, cakes and ice cream.

Ok i wanted to update my review for Shinju because after trying alot of other Japanese buffets, this one is by far the best and freshest. So aside from it being hard to get into the parking lot, I like it alot.

Quite a good all-you-can-eat sushi and Asian restaurant located along Glades Road, just east of the Florida Turnpike in Boca Raton, FL. The lady at the hostess stand was especially friendly, and made sure that I got a good seat right near the food (What? She must have thought I would starve if I wasn't close enough to all of the sushi.) She explained the rules of their buffet -- clean plate on every trip; please eat as much as you want; please eat what you take off the buffet; and please oink quietly in between trips to the buffet. In the center of the food area is a large circular serving station where half a dozen sushi chefs stand there and continually crank out platters of sushi and sashimi. Many of the typical rolls, along with some creative specialty rolls - and everything is for the taking. Along one wall is the Mongolian BBQ grill with another couple of guys standing there ready to grill up your plates of food. There is also a steam table along a second wall with serving trays of dumplings, egg rolls, soups, and Asian food of every type. There's also a counter filled with fruits, pastries (chocolate éclairs!!!) , cookies, and ice cream. The food was all very fresh and the servers were constantly bringing out more platters. Nothing tasted as if it had been sitting there for hours. The bill for my lunch was under $15 which was quite a bargain considering all of the sushi that I snarfed.

I take back everything I said about this restaurant. They flaunt and even advertise being friendly to under 3 year olds. Even letting them eat free. My son got a little fussy and not once, not twice, but three times in 3 minutes the waitresses told me to "calm my child" despite the restaurant being almost empty today (my birthday by the way). Ultimately they told me to leave & despite me having not even eaten anything, I was asked to pay for food and service I did not receive. Parents: beware.

Shinju follows the template of a standard asian-american buffet down to the staff composed of asian and hispanic employees all clad in faux traditional uniforms. The buffet offers a large selection of half-hearted sushi (a portion decent rolls, a portion full of left-over fish mash, and a handful of nigiri), a hot table of americanized Chinese food, a hibachi grill, and a selection of fruit and bulk desserts. The place could really be cleaner and for the same price, $11.95 (M-F lunch), go to Ichiyama down the street for cleaner, more creative food, prompter service, and a less manufactured ambiance.

They have the best hot and sour soup around! Hibachi is delicious sushi selection is large everything is always full except right before closing this place is so good you have to try it

There has been a definite shift in the quality of the food here with the demise of Kyojin---and not for the better. What used to be a four star is now a three star, possibly a two--- as their prices are high--- all things considered. The sashimi is a little thinner and packed with more rice, the chicken at the Mongolian BBQ/ Hibachi is also cut too thin, and the food generally does not taste as fresh as it used to. Now it is a buffet, so I am not expecting the quality one would find at a an la carte place, but Shinju's food was much better than it used to be. Also, at $18.95 a person for dinner, there is a law of diminishing returns in play and I would rather get less food, that is better tasting from a non-buffet restaurant.

Good food , for a buffet. Great premade sushi for a buffet. Great value for a feed trough buffet with fresh and bountiful seafood. If you really want great sushi, do not go to buffet. They have hot hibachi grill and Chinese buffet items as well. Packed with people most times.

Listen people. It's called a buffet. You're paying $20 for dinner and you're expecting Nobu or the Four Seasons for Brunch on Sunday. Snap out of it. With that said my rating is solely based on the fact that this restaurant is a BUFFET. For a buffet this place is pretty freaking awesome. Not a fan of them at all, but I love Shinju. The pretty Asian ladies do a killer job bringing you ice water. If you're gonna eat at a buffet people, you have to know how to eat at a Buffet. 1. Go at the most common lunch or dinner time. By common, I mean if you're going to lunch don't show up at 1:30p.m and if you're going for dinner I wouldn't go after 8:30. Why? Because the busier it is, the more food they are going to rotate and you won't get fish sitting out for 2 hours. So I've always found that going around 6 is perfect, the food is fresh and they're constantly putting out new food. 2. Leave your food critic sour opinions at home. If you want to be a food snob and criticize food you're spending 20 dollars on, then just a little two sense, they aren't going to be serving Toro and fresh Uni. 3. Eat a lot. I make some serious gains when I go to Shinju. It's highly entertaining because I put most professional buffet eaters to shame. And I'm super fit, or like to think I am. I Then go work out and it goes straight to my ass. Score. My friends tell me this story of Angela, Pretty Asian Layday who has a secret stash of red bean ice cream in the back. I hear its served in a small soup bowl and has aphrodisiac properties. I'm starting to think that this is a myth or that maybe she doesn't like me. Cuz all I get is: " Oh no honay we no ha da here." Sayonara.

Lots of sushi. LOTS OF SUSHI here! Shinju Japanese Buffet is a nice buffet with a fair amount of options other than sushi if you are in the mood for Asian food. The hibachi area they had was just okay. While they had a lot of variety to choose from, I would say the quality was not very good. The beef/steak was pretty flavorless and felt like something very processed and bland. Overall the hibachi was generic and didn't taste like anything positive to remember. Quantity doesn't always equal quality. I do like buffets, and Shinju is a nice Japanese Buffet compared to the quality of many others, but it doesn't soar above my expectations, it just meets them. Food (B-), Pricing (B-), Atmosphere (B), Service (C)

Great sushi buffet. Older sushi is always fresh and if you need anything special they always fix it for us. Other cooked food is fresh and prepared well. This place is great for big groups call and make reservation ahead if your group I think of 10 or more. The staff is nice and friendly and always courteous.

What a fabulous buffet. So much good food . Chinese Japanese bbq Left stuffed. Reasonable price for all you get. Clean and nice atmosphere. A bit noisy but that comes with a buffet. Yum.

Food was really good so was the service. What threw me was the restroom. There was a ding that said all employees must wash hands and there was no soap. No big deal. Right. When I told the front desk they laughed.

Seems to be a popular place. The food is mediocre at best however. There is a wide selection and the value is there, just wish the food quality was better. Wouldn't go again unless someone else really wanted to go.

This is my number one place for sushi. You can watch while many varieties are being made. It tastes fresh and is very good. If you love sushi, this is the place to go. There is a separate counter for Chinese food. They have soups, appetizers, and entrees, I like the won ton soup. The Chinese food is okay. It is not as extensive as other Chinese buffets, but they have many of the popular dishes. I tried their hibachi grill. The variety of vegetables looked great but the taste of my hibachi dish was disappointing. I'm not sure if it was over cooked, or if it was the oil they used to cook it in. They have a nice dessert and fresh fruit station. The service was friendly and our server quickly cleared away the dirty dishes.

I have a MAJOR COMPLAINT..... we over-eat every time. As a mater of fact.... every time we came here and also had plans to run errands after lunch, we had to cancel because we end up super bloated and stuffed. I have been to plenty of chinese and other asian buffets; most have items that look unpleasant and we end up eating limited selection of what does look appetizing. Luckily I was brought here a few months back and since then we have not been back to any other asian buffet. The sushi is really excellent and very surprising it's part of an all-u-can eat since they go far beyond the basic rolls. They also have a chinese selection and a hibachi grill (which I have never tried), but the thing I really like is the way they do the stir-fry (pick your goodies on a stir-fry buffet section, then select from a variety of sauces and spices and literally hand those selections to the cook to have "wok'ed" in front of you on an unusual fire stove (almost like a fire blower resembling a over-sized blowtorch). My only "real" complaint is the bland and boring dessert area, but then again asian restaurants have never really been known for their desserts. I do have one other complaint that has really annoyed me... they basically have 4 prices (lunch weekday, lunch weekend, dinner weekday and dinner weekend)... I came for lunch on mothers day once and when we went to pay the price was hiked up about 10 dollars each person (we were a group of 6). Why is the bill jacked up 60 dollars with no notice? The food on the buffet was exactly the same. I asked and they said they have a notice on the door coming in... so I checked and it was a white piece of paper with pencil writing that was barely legible and who the hell is reading scribble on a doorway anyway. If this didn't occur I would easily give them a 4 star rating.

Quickie trip to south and needing a serious sushi fix. My husband had mentioned Shinju. I tend to shy away from buffets; especially anything to do with seafood. Boy was I was pleasantly surprised. Sushi was delicious! Everything I tried was good. I even tried the mussels and crab legs. I read some mix reviews about the staff. Servers couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant was spotless! If your in south fla, hungry and need some sushi STAT,Stop into Shinju. You won't be disappointed.

The food here is not bad. It's pretty fresh. Not high end or high quality sushi, but good if you are hungry and just want average sushi. The waitresses and hostesses are very nice. Always helpful and attentive. The restaurant is clean and it's a big place, so plenty of seats. My only issue, and the reason for the low rating, is the so-called sushi chefs who work behind the sushi buffet. I've never seen a more consistently rude group of employees in any restaurant. No matter when I am there - lunch or dinner - the guys working behind the buffet are obnoxious. It's to the point where I won't go back there. I have been to this restaurant probably 20 times over the last couple of years. Any time I go up to the bar and say "hello" or "good afternoon" or "Excuse me, what's in this roll?" or ask anything whatsoever, I am first ignored, and if I say it a second time, I get a snotty look and no response. Then they look at one another and make comments and smirk. It's shocking that management keeps these people employed there. If I press my question, and get any response from them, it's always begrudging and short, as if I am bothering them. If you can't get along with people and be pleasant to customers, you should not be put on the floor where you will be face to face with hundreds of customers a day. Tonight was the final straw. I have asked the "sushi chefs" probably 4 or 5 times over the 2 years since I've been going there if they have kimchee sauce. They always tell me no. Tonight, I saw them give a young, attractive woman a sauce. they had no problem helping her. I asked her what it was. She said "It's kimchee sauce." So I (not a young attractive woman, but just a middle aged man) looked at the chef and asked if I can please have some of the sauce. He did the usual routine....ignored me. I asked again. He looked at all of the other sauces on the bar as if to tell me that's enough sauce over there. I asked again and he turned to his friend, mumbled something, they both smirked, and then he begrudgingly turned and got me a kimchee sauce. WTF is wrong with these guys? The routine is getting old. It's time for management to hire some chefs who appreciate getting a paycheck, appreciate customers, and can have some manners. If I had someone working for me with that attitude, I would fire him on the spot. I'm done with this place.

I've eaten here twice and it's good and always busy. It's not the best buffet in Boca in my opinion, but it does have good food. $22 for dinner, but Why are their crab legs served cold???

  • David L.

The food quality have not shrunk over the years. I still think shinju is the best sushi in Boca.. Everything is fresh and the fried shrimp and volcano sushi roll are my favorite. Eating for lunch here with colleagues is also a good choice.

Ok, so the place has been closed by the PBC Health Authorities a few times for "food handling infractions" like having raw chicken dripping on lettuce, roaches etc. It happens, so my friends say and continued to go weekly UNTIL a few weeks ago when one of them is in the rest room and an employee comes out of the stall and leaves without washing his hands. If you look at the PBC restaurant violations online you'll see that most of the restaurants who have food contamination violations are Chinese restaurants and buffets. Enough said?

Was invited out last week and we were taken here. What a fabulous restaurant. A buffet not to be believed. It was the best sushi rolls ever. I cannot recommend it enough. Can't wait to go again and bring our ftuends. Don't miss it. If you like sushi.omh

I am anti-buffet. This is important to note when reading this review. ANTI-BUFFET. If you tell me we're going to a buffet, you're taking em kicking and screaming and I am not going to be happy. That said. This place is baller. Everything tastes fresh. The hot stuff is hot. The cold stuff is cold. And there's even a made-to-order stir fry area. Come with an empty stomach; you're gonna need it.

Nobody should mistake this place for Nobu. It is what it is. A perfectly serviceable sushi buffet, especially when you want something quick, cheap and plenty of it. I never went to Shoney thinking I was getting brunch at the Ritz Carlton. Sushi snobs don't bother, but if you want to gorge like George Zimmerman in prison, then Shinju Japanese Buffet is the perfect option. It's actually one of the few sushi buffets in the area, thanks to Kyojin going out of business (because of Shinju). I don't mess with any of the desserts so I can't tell you if those mass-produced previously frozen full of preservatives treats are any good. I tend to stay away from the Chinese food here too. I can attest to their sushi being pretty good. The quality is a tic better than most sushi buffets but the sushi itself isn't that flavorful. The bottom line, for $12 you get an array of sushi to chose from. They really do have the most options I've seen at a buffet. It's not a bad deal at all but you have to be in the mood for it.

UNbelievable! Our friend in Delray Beach has been talking about Shinju for a year now, so when my wife and I traveled down to visit her for Thanksgiving, we went on Friday. Personally, I don't see how they can be profitable with all of the food that gets eaten? At least that's what was happening at our table. EVERYTHING was good. The raw oysters were fresh, as was the shrimp and crab legs. The sushi, and the different rolls were all made with fresh, firm fish. The stir fry and Mongolian BBQ were also excellent. Oh, save some room for the desserts. We'll definitely be back to Shinju. Now I'm praying for them to open a location in central Florida.

  • Sven B.

When they first opened, they were great. It's been going downhill ever since. Dinner sushi is just leftovers from lunch! Now they've been cited with dozens of health violations, and reports of people getting sick. Their response? "People got sick because they ate too much". Well... I guess that says it all. I'm not going back. There's one more thing that is bothersome, but this one is really not their fault. The place is full of low-class people who pile their plates with so much food, it's as if they are forgetting that there's more at the buffet. These same peasants bring their screaming kids for dinner, and it's so bad that having normal conversations is virtually impossible. What a shame. There is good news though: a new place has opened in Royal Palm Place, called Ichiyami Buffet & Sushi, and that's where I've been going lately.

Nice place. Great ribs and many items to choose from. Crab legs were over cooked but I won't hold it against them because most of the items we tried were good.

I happened to be in the area for business purposes and Shinju was less than a half mile from my hotel. After reading reviews of nearby restaurants, I decided to see for myself. To my surprise the place was fully packed on a Thursday evening. I tried a wide variety of the items offered, of which the only part I enjoyed was the crab legs and the broiled salmon dish. I regret not having something made from the hibachi station considering I spent over $30 on dinner and a single glass of wine. I really don't know what I was expecting at the time, sushi is absolutely not intended to be on a buffet. On a good note, the restaurant seemed pretty clean and the service was pleasant.

Found this place thanks to some of my yelper friends. They all agreed on how good Shinju is and I join them. Every time I've gone we are seated almost immediately and, since it's buffet, you don't have to wait, just get a plate and eat. The choices are vast: salad, noodles, rice, chicken and steak cooked in different ways and sauces, clams, oysters, mussels, shrimp, dumplings, crab rangoons, soups, and more. Then you have all the sushi rolls and sashimi... They even have a hibachi area (are you hungry yet???) You'll probably want to try it all but that will take several visits. So far I have not had one bad thing here. Everything tastes fresh, they don't let things sit there for long. For dessert they have assorted cakes and pastries but can't comment on those since the only thing I go for is the Green Tea Ice Cream, one of the best part of Japanese buffets, if you ask me (they have other flavors too). To drink they offer sodas, juice, tea, wine, beer or sake. This is an "all you can eat" so go hungry and enjoy.

Awkward location on a very busy road. I must be half retarded cause I thought I was turning into the parking lot of the restaurant but I ended up on the turnpike going north. So I had to drive all the way up to Atlantic to turn around and drive back down to Glades. They have a lot of different rolls but it's mostly rice. Maybe I picked the wrong day to go. The sushi was kinda sad with this paper thin fish over a ridiculous amount of rice. Their fried items were just too greasy. It wasn't all that cheap either. I'll stick to Ginza in Boynton Beach. Their lunch is only $10.

This is a great place to go if you are venturing into sushi land and want to try out a myriad of different things without breaking the bank like you would at a traditional sushi restaurant. I met up with a couple of Yelpers and friends on a Friday night for dinner and catching up. The place was packed, and with a line out the door. That's saying something in these recession times. The sushi is freshly made in front of you in the center of the refrigerated display counters. The turnover on Friday night was super fast so you know that what you were eating was really fresh. What I particularly liked was that they have plates and plates of just the raw fish slices so you could load up on that if you were watching your carb intake. As I had pigged out on the unlimited Sushi and Edamame and probably at least one of everything else from the hot buffet I skipped the hibachi grill but my neighbor had what smelled just awesome, a concoction of her own making with shrimp, a ton of garlic and ginger and some veggies. Again as we had over done it on the real food front, we skipped the dessert table, but I did manage to squeeze in some fresh pineapple slices. They have a beer and wine menu and the prices are reasonable $4.50 for a Kirin Ichiban beer. The staff were super attentive and at the end of the night as we were one of the last tables to leave, they were doing a very thorough job of cleaning up. Fat pants rule!

Everything on the sushi bar was fresh. There were plenty of simple rolls that the kids like, salmon, california, tuna & avocado, etc, so the kids were happy. The spring rolls on the hot bar were fresh and crispy, too. The chefs were working hard the entire time, and kept filling the bar all along. Thanks for a great lunch!

Close to home and a great place to drop by at when we have guests who are Sushi hungry. It is a bit pricy if you are not a big eater so if you have picky guests with small apetites who are Vegans ...... save your $$$$. We have always had a decent meal here and do tend to over eat as not only is the Sushi good the Chinese buffet is very decent though the Hibachi chef needs to go for a bit of a refresher course! (wish they had the white dipping sauce that you get at Kobes). We will be back when we have guests again!

3rd time in 3 weeks - do I win an award? Brought friends here last night after they got sick of me ranting and raving about Shinju and wanted to try it out for themselves. Between the 4 of us, I think we had 8 loaded plates. So good... so full. Learned that they have cheap beer: $3.50 for a bud light, not bad! No shrimp shumai again, pork dumplings are a good substitute though! Keep it up Shinju, we love you!

Not too bad. Service was good. Food was replenished quickly and easy to find. Nothing was overwhelmingly amazing or terrible. I wish there was a "no crab leg" dinner price, I feel obligated to eat them (even though I never do) to get my value. I'll try it again for lunch.

Normally I'd be giving high praises and two thumbs up, After all, they do have plenty of classic chinese dishes and you can customize your own stir-fry plates in addition to the "not to be forgotten" huge selection of fresh sushi (and not typical buffet style sushi that has an unpleasant yuckiness to it). BUT on this day, I say "SHAME ON YOU SHINJU" Lunch buffet is normally about 13 bucks per person but today we finished our meal and received the bill and they charged $19.95... SEVEN bucks more per person. Our bill was actually THIRTY DOLLARS more than normally. I told the waitress of the error and she said it's posted on the front door that the buffet is $19.95 today. The sign she referred to is a normal sheet of paper with colored markers. The penmanship is hard to read and doesn't even read correctly, plus why would I read a note on a window. There was no reason to charge more. As a mater of fact, as we were leaving some people were understanding the sign, that we did not understand and they just left before coming in. Quite frankly, they should have had the waitress welcome us for Father's Day and say today's buffet is $19.95 (since there is no menu to state the price change). And why change it anyway; there was no special, additional items added to the normal buffet. I'm here often enough to consider myself a regular but today (Father's Day) I felt they took advantage of us regulars. Again I want to reiterate, "SHAME ON YOU SHINJU"

Many, many things to choose from. Although I usually just fill up on the sushi. It's fresh and very well made. The all you can eat is just a plus! Also a lot cleaner and nicer atmosphere than most Asian buffets. Highly recommended!

We took our family there to eat and everyone loved it! There's a huge variety of sushi. Great presentation. Some good choices also at the hot buffet area, which were pretty tasty. You can also get soup (Miso, Hot & Sour, etc) along with salad. My favorite was the hibachi area where you put on a plate what you want to eat, and take it to the chef who cooks it up for you. To top it off, they have a great dessert bar, where you can choice from fresh fruit, pastries or ice cream. Overall, I thought they offered a great value for the money and the food was really good. I would definitely go back. BTW: When going there, entrance in through the office buildings, otherwise, you'll end up on the turnpike.

I came to Shinju wanting to like this place. The reviews looked good and I wanted to see for myself. Give me quality, fresh sushi and I will be a loyal customer but this was not going to be the case. The reality... I have to give them credit for trying. The buffet was well organized, the restaurant was reasonably attractive (at least on the inside) and the staff was helpful but unobtrusive. Unfortunately, EVERYTHING in the buffet was decidedly mediocre. The deal breaker: There was a very, very unpleasant, almost overwhelming smell around parts of the main "sushi island". I smelled it on every trip to the buffet so it was no fluke. This is not my 1st trip to a sushi buffet or restaurant. I have loved the stuff for 30 years. The awful smell was not anything I have experienced anywhere else. I am glad I checked this place out before taking a date there! I won't be returning.

I really enjoy eating here with my family. The ladies at the front counter are much friendlier than their servers but that's ok, you're up grabbing sushi or Chinese food for the majority of the time. They have a large circular counter where they have place their 20+ choices of sushi as well as crab legs, seafood salad, edamame. Behind that counter is another counter that has strictly non sushi asian food. Wonton soup, general tso's chicken, dumplings and much more are just some of the yummy food they offer. Now it is a buffet, so I always come here knowing not to expect the best sushi ever, but it is still really good quality. If you aren't into sushi don't worry as they have hibachi with steak, chicken and shrimp and other asian food like I listed. A little tip: If you can do without the crab legs, come here for lunch instead of dinner because it's the same thing with just a little bit less options for $12 instead of $22.

Well, husband and I are BIG Shinju fans and usually frequent the Coral Springs, University Drive location. This was our first time. We missed the entrance and wound up on the turnpike, had to drive south and come back again. Then we were confronted with a giant sign about how they close at 3:30 put we wouldn't be asked to leave until 4:15 or something. I get that they have to break down and retool for dinner, but it was like being asked to get out before we were even seated. Hostess who seated us was a very slim Asia woman with a lacy beige blouse. Later she was seen eating at a table. I guess all the staff takes turns eating what's left after lunch, but she took her shoes off. She sat with bare feet cross legged up on the chair. So when we went up for food, we were looking at the bottoms of her bare feet. Where is the Health Dept when you need them? Anyway, some food was better than the Coral Springs location, and some, not so much. The hibachi here was great, but this I didn't like as much...they ask you to pick your own veg, which is fine...they also ask you to pick your own seasoning and then hand it to the chef. Listen, I'm not a chef and I don't know how much ginger and other spices are the right amount. If I have to create my own recipe, I'm gonna be disappointed with the outcome, which I was. I'm not a chef. I don't know the correct amount and I don't want to be asked that. I'm paying YOU to know that and then do it for ME! My beef hibachi dinner was good not great because it had too much ginger. The dessert bar was paltry and a complete disappointment. The carrot cake mix used in the carrot cake was spice cake mix, not carrot. It was also very dry and maybe a week old. No cappuccino flavored cakes at all. Dining room looks nicer, but staffers are NOT on point and don't seem to care about how their demeanor and appearance looks to the diners.

No, I wasn't at a Bar Mitzvah, but the energy, service, and quantity of food made me think I was. For starters, this was my SECOND visit ever to an all-you-can-eat sushi bar, so I wasn't expecting much. While the sushi wasn't the best I've ever had -- I leave that to Masa, in Las Vegas, yelp.com/biz/barmasa-las… -- the sheer quantity and freshness made for a stunning presentation. And don't let the name fool you, there is also a Mongolian 'barbecue' area as well as a hot buffet of some Chinese standby's like egg rolls and chicken and broccoli. Most South Florida Asian buffets are priced at 30-50% less than that of Shinju, but this is well worth it.

I lived around the area and has been go this restaurant on weekly basic. They always have fresh sushi and sashimi and the service is great. Will recommend any friends and family that I know.

I had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant from others and decided to check it out for myself. I came in and was very pleased at the fact that it is not only sushi but also stir fry and hibachi! The sushi was very good and used fresh fish. It's hard to believe that they can make money because it is very affordable and it's all you can eat. I came in with my family and everyone really enjoyed it. The servers were all very friendly. I highly recommend it!

Came here with family and friends last week for lunch. The sushi was deemed to be top quality by all (and with good variety). Although: beware of escolar, which is used in some of their sushi -- a Google search will tell you this fish is poisonous. Read the sushi labels carefully. I'm not a huge sushi fan myself, so I went for the other dishes, which were much poorer in quality. The green beans were half raw, as was the asparagus. The hot and sour soup could only be described as a sweet and not-hot, not-sour soup. The red bean ice cream could only be described as schizophrenic - having hints of red bean, vanilla, strawberry, and coconut. We'll probably go again in the company of sushi lovers, since this buffet is relatively close to home. Can't say I enjoyed it much.

If your goal is to go to a fancy place, this isn't it. Its more like an asian flavored "Golden Corral" If your goal is to shovel and gorge your fat ass with asian food than this is the stop. Warning: if you eat here more than once a month you will get fat. Good selection of food, I saw a group of staff having a sitdown eating the food, which makes me feel more confident about the safety of the food. The staff is very pleasant.

This may come as a surprise to anyone who has seen me destroy a plate of food with my superhuman eating powers, but I'm not generally a fan of buffets. But a good one does come along every now and then, and Shinju is a nice find that easily falls into this category. First off, Shinju has a lot of choices when it comes to sushi... probably more than any other buffet I've been to. All of the sushi was fresh-tasting, with decent cuts of fish that were served in good proportion to the rice. Some of the rolls were a bit overly drenched in sauces, but not enough to totally ruin them. The fried shrimps, scallops and pork dumplings were all tasty as well. Most importantly, the staff keeps this place very clean and orderly... which is just about as key in any buffet-style restaurant as the freshness of the actual food. As buffets go, Shinju is a solid 4 out of 5. Variety, freshness, cleanliness and a good value.

was really superseded on how good it really was ! My friend told me it was all you can eat and i thought i was going to be all fake fish and just plane dirty.... I was far from that ... its fresh and they make it in front of you and have a good selection .. give it a shot ... im pretty picky, ill deff go back

Big surprise. The last place i would eat is a Japanese buffet. But when in florida, do as old.Floridians do. Fresh sushi, fresh vegetables, and no overseasoning. Shashimi was above average, but great for a buffet. $18 all you can eat. Stirfry station has fresh veggies and sauces that are tasty and light. Spare ribs were the best ive had in a while. Dessert is a let down but it didnt matter as I couldnt eat anymore.

This was my go-to basic sushi buffet. The sushi quality is pretty good, for a buffet. It is not Nobu though, but I probably don't need to say that. It is my daughter's favorite place, and we enjoy it overall. I have been going here with the family since it opened. Over the last year or so, it has gone down in quality a bit, mainly in sushi diversity. They have removed some of my favorite items such as eel nigiri and some specialized pieces. I primarily eat the sushi, although the custom stir fry is pretty good. There are some very good sauces you can add, and the ingredients are pretty good quality. Yes, the shrimp are standard cheap TSP soaked, but that is par for the course (or coarse, if you like). Overall, the sushi is still pretty decent, with a good selection of unique items. It is still the best sushi buffet in the area, IMO. The Chinese offerings are decent, with the veggie-heavy dishes being the best, IMO. The tempura items are overly breaded, IMO. The soups are decent enough. I don't eat dessert, but from what the rest of the family says, they are OK at best. Pastries are all mass-produced stuff. They do have red bean (sometimes) and green tea ice cream, which are decent. My real issue with the place is that the price keeps creeping up, and the variety is going down slowly. The last time I took my family there (3.5 yoa boy, 7 yoa girl, wife and I), it cost us $61.73 for LUNCH (with tip; I tipped $10, I believe). They charge kids rate ($6.95) for 3 years and up. REALLY??? $7 for a three year old?!?!? The adults ordered iced tea at about $2.50 a pop, and with tip, the total was just shocking. I didn't look over the bill very carefully; maybe I should have. I've been there so many times that I just sort of paid the bill automatically. After, I sat there thinking, "What just happened?!?" I don't mind paying good money for good food, but I feel that I am getting ripped off there lately. We haven't been there since, but I did go there once for lunch by myself when I needed a quick meal. The total was about $13.95, I believe, not including tip. Not horrible, considering the overall quality, but it will get expensive quick if you bring a family and get drinks.

Sushi is definitely the star here--an endless variety to choose from. Everything else resembles any other Asian buffet, but I'd venture that the quality is a little higher. I thought the green tea and red bean ice creams were a neat addition to an otherwise dismal dessert selection. $13.95 for Sunday lunch was a reasonably good deal.

This is a good Japanese buffet. Unfortunately that is not saying much. There is plenty of food but most of it seems to be prepared (frozen, pre-packaged). There are many sushi offerings but the fish seems washed of flavor and frozen to me. It only makes me want authentic, FRESH sushi/sashimi. This can not be found here at Shinju.

  • Rudi X.

As Japanese Buffets go Shinju is as good as it gets. I find the freshness, variety and the aesthetics of the food to be first rate. For those who aren't into sushi/sashimi, there's still an impressive amount of tempura and hibachi items in addition to other Asian dishes. After years of eating at nearby Kyojin, which used to be a favorite of mine, I think Shinju just blows it completely away. This is "the" Japanese Buffet of Boa Raton. Enjoy!

Lately they have been failing inspections, look them up. People have been getting sick from the oysters, plus when I ate their sushi was warm. To many people handling the food improperly plus you have the public who just Do not care how they take what is prepared.that is the risk of buffets.

Whenever I go to a sushi place, I want to step out of my comfort zone and try that weird combination roll that sounds like it could be really great. But what if it's terrible? Then, I'd be out $15 and hungry. Enter Shinju Japanese Buffet! Adventurous without consequences! Yay! The sushi is fresh, the Chinese food is decent, the staff is friendly, and my skinny jeans are resentful. Truly, one of the best deals in Boca.

I'm not a buffet kinda gal but this place deserves 5 stars. Great selection of sushi, hibachi, chinese food! The waitresses are friendly and very attentive. The place if very casual and kids friendly and usually packed. We've been going there for over a year and never had a bad experience.

When you're really in the mood to just gorge on Japanese food like sushi, shashimi, tempura, soups, and even seafood (like crab legs) this completely hits the spot. I mean of course you're going to leave so uncomfortably full and miserable, but it's sooo worth it sometimes. Am I right? It's a really nice and clean restaurant too. The food was fantastic and offered a large variety including made to order stir-fry. The staff was pretty friendly (more so the servers than the hostess). Lunch is about half the price of dinner so that's always a good option if you're on a budget. There's a few other places similar in the area, but I would definitely go back to this one over the others. Beth's Tip: Invest in some good kimono designed stretch pants and enjoy :)

We have been going to Kyojin on Powerline Rd. for years on our south Florida outings. After some negative recent reviews, we found Shinju. No more Kyojin for this family. The buffet is huge, clean, and fresh. So many sushi and roll choices, very well made unlike many sushi buffets, where the quality and skill are low. Other seafood choices including crab legs and shellfish were clean and fresh tasting. Hot entrees and appetizers were also good. Nice hibachi with a Mongolian BBQ- style build-your-own bar. OK desserts but nice ice cream selection. One of the finest asian buffets I have been to. Just a few negatives- fairly difficult to figure out the entrance- make sure you don't get on the Turnpike! Service was a little slow to refill drinks, but they were pleasant. Strongly recommend this restaurant.

Asian buffets are never good...the best they can be clean and cheap. It's where you take your kids and their friends as an alt to olive garden or pizza not to satisfy a longing for asian cusine (The one exception is the Dim Sum Dragon Buffet in Sunrise) let alone Japanese food. This place was lousy and depressing and expensive. $87 for 2 adults and 2 kids for what was probably about $30 worth of gloppy generic chinese and dried out sushi. ( at one point Chinese and thai restauranteurs realized that the mark-up on japanese food was unreal and also that most Americans couldn't tell good sushi from crap or tell that they weren't japanese and so they all went in for it big-time.) I felt that really gross feeling I always get at these places and ate just enough so i wouldn't be hungry when i got home.

Having been in the food service industry for the better part of 20 years, I am always amazed at how buffets like this can survive. Then the bill comes, and I can figure it out! The place isn't cheap by any standards, Boca or otherwise. That being said, they have one of the best selections I have ever seen at an Asian buffet. The different food items are too numerous to mention, but I will do my best! They have crab legs, shrimp, oysters, mussels, clams, tuna, white tuna, salmon and a few other types of sashimi, roughly 40 different sushi maki rolls, 10 types of sushi (rice with fish), and a hot "Chinese" section with crab rangoon, hibachi chicken, chicken wings, sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, tempura vegetables, spring rolls, and numerous other items. If that weren't enough, they have 4 different soups including Miso and Hot and sour. If it ended there, I think most people would be satisfied, but they also have the standard hibachi with a cook standing there ready to produce your creation with the standard zucchini, mushrooms and onions. If that doesn't suit you, they have a bar where you can put together your own dish with water chestnuts, snow peas, broccoli, garlic, cabbage, all the normal protein choices and your sauces. There are many other ingredients here, but I never have enough room in my stomach to try them, so I can't really give you an inclusive list. If you have been to Stir Crazy in Boca, you have an idea of what is on there, because it is similar. The dessert bar holds no punches either. There are roughly 6-8 pastry choices, 8 different ice creams, enough fruit to feed a small army and some sort of pudding. I can assure you that there is enough there to have Joey Chestnut crying when he is done. They do charge $17.95 even on a weekday night for the buffet, which is why I am only giving it 4 stars. It is not feasible for a family of 4 to go there on a regular basis. Unless they all want to go to a Weight Watchers meeting afterwards, it isn't safe either. All in all, it is an amazing treat every once in a while.

Come here if you love sushi. Don't otherwise. The sushi is better than other sushi buffets but the Chinese and hibachi is shit. The hibachi is much better at kiyojin. The service was good, however and it's a fun place. Just not the greatest value for less than average food.

  • Christiane A.

I've never tried the hibachi grill before. I finally decided to try it and I was very satisfied! I loved picking out exactly what I wanted and having my chicken cooked without oil and the chef not getting angry by my request! My favorites here are the hibachi grill, miso soup (best I've had around here and love having the ability to have as much or as little of it as I want!), brown rice!, lychee!, yakitori! (best I've had around here!), and sesame seed balls! My mom especially enjoyed the seafood. Also despite some comments that gave the green tea thumbs down my mom and I really enjoyed the green tea. Although they do charge for the tea ($2.50) we ended up getting 2 pots full of tea and were only charged once so in reality the price isn't bad at all. Everything at the buffet of course isn't the best tasting (I doubt any buffet is perfect) but this buffet is miles ahead of many other buffets around here so no complaints. Highly recommended if you like hibachi and seafood (you can easily get your money's worth just with these)!

I used to eat at Shinju at least once a week and always enjoyed the food and service. Unfortunately, I found live roaches in my food on my plate during my last visit. Yes, you read correctly. Needless to say, I will be eating there ever again.

I am so suprised this place only has 8 reviews. I think from the outside it looks a little hokey so maybe not a lot of yelpers have caught on but let me tell you...best sushi buffet! So many different rolls, sashimi, stiry fry, giant oysters, crab legs etc. Fresh and delish! Would pick this over Kyojen any day. We love it!

So I am giving this four stars in the category of all you can eat sushi. For an all you can eat sushi bar, its really good, and while the quality of the fish is good, its not great. I would like to see a little more spicy in their spicy rolls, and some wasabi that actually has a kick to it. The dumplings are really good and some of their rolls are quite imaginative. There is sushi, sashimi, rolls, dumplings, ribs, shrimp, crab legs, stir fry, a hibachi and much more. So basically, if you go here and cant find something to eat, you might just want to stay home with a Hungry Man meal. The only downside, its a bit pricey. Dinner for two with 2 beers and one sake came to $57 before tip. Will I go back - yep.

Had lunch yesterday and was very impressed with the wide selection, tasty food, friendly greeting and the attractiveness of the place. I found much of the food to be nicely presented and flavorful. The hot chicken dishes came off tastier than the beef selections. The seafood salad was first class. The sushi and California roll offerings were good and fresh. While many buffet establishments are known for their quantity over quality, Shinju scores very nicely on both points.

  • Jen A.

I do like a buffet so enjoyed my experience here enough. However, if you are from an area with good sushi (like Seattle, California, NY) skip the sushi. The rice is awfully heavy and over-vinagered and the rolls are mushy. The quality of the fish seemed fine but the rice really did wreck it.

This food was great! Normally for us, we have to sacrifice quality whenever we go to a buffet-type restaurant. Shinju surprised us with stellar food, variety, and service. We went here every day during our visit, and were never disappointed. I would recommend this to anyone who likes good Asian food. You just want to get there around six to be seated without much of a wait.

I was trying to decide between Kyogin and Shinju.. upon reading reviews we picking Shinju. We got there at about 7pm. There was already a line, but we only had to wait 10 minutes or so. I am cheap when it comes to meals, so for 19.95$ I had a high expectation set. The crab legs and cold shrimp were fresh and I loved those! The hibachi was OK. NOT the same as regular hibachi.. I love the seafood sauce and I did not see that there. Also, they only give you noodles as an option on the hibachi. I am a hibachi rice FREAK :) However, the hibachi was pretty good and they had a great selection. I am probably the only person in the world that does not care for sushi that much, but my boyfriend seemed to LOVE IT. The grill steak with onions was soooo good. Fried rice was awesome (how hard is it to make a good fried rice though :) The dessert was yummy. Fresh fruit was very fresh and fabulous. BRING HIBACHI RICE TO THE GRILL PLEASE :D
